Frequently Asked Questions

Being a member at the Green Office, what does that mean?

As a Green Office for KU Leuven member, you can make our university more sustainable. What you exactly do, depends on your own interests: you can join an existing team, project or working group or you can propose your own project.

What do you expect from me?

You are motivated to work together with other students and staff members on projects, campaThees and/or events, on a weekly basis throughout the semester. You join one team, project or working group, communicate with other members and are actively involved in meetings and activities. We encourage everyone to reflect personally on all aspects of sustainability and share their thoughts with the group. The average workload is 3 hours per week.

What do I get in return?

The Green Office provides the space, knowledge and means to help you organize your events or implement your project. You will receive support and coaching from the Green Office team. Additionally, we provide workshops, training and fun activities. You will also receive endorsements such as gadgets and a certificate, and you can add your volunteer work to your I-Portfolio.

How do I become a member?

First, you can get to know us during several events at the start of the year such as the Student welcome and our open meeting. Applications for membership start at the beginning of every semester and will appear on this website. When applying, you tell us more about yourself and indicate what kind of project you would like to work on. Applicants are then invited for an interview and notified whether they have been selected as a Green Office member. We offer a spot for a maximum of 40 members per semester. It is highly recommended to join the open meeting to receive all the important points. If you cannot make it, be sure to check the information on this website.

What do Green Office members do?

You can do many things as a member! Together with your team members, you will discuss what you would like to accomplish. Once you have specified your ideas, you start implementing them under the guidance of your coach. Teamwork, communication and planning are key here! Afterwards, you self-evaluate the outcome of your project. We encourage students to take on ownership and responsibility for their sustainable ideas. We offer support where needed. And of course, there is plenty of opportunities to socialize and have fun as well! Read all about the projects you can join below.

Which projects can I work on?

You can join one of our projects, which you can find here. Please specify your preference in the registration form. Please be aware that we cannot give everyone their first choice as all groups are limited to a maximum of six members.

Become a job student

All members are coached by a group of job students. Vacancies will appear here and in the KU Leuven Student Job Shop.

Every year in September, we organize an Open Meeting, during which we explain all about our membership program and answer any questions you might have. Afterwards, you can register as a member online.

You can also register in the second semester, provided that there are open spots. Information will appear here and on our Facebook page.
